The Art of Sydney Awards Exhibition was a great success. Both of my paintings were accepted and looked great hanging at the Maritime Museum. The two paintings I submitted were "Fusion" already featured here and "The Abyss".

Finalist at the Oatley 101 12th Annual Members' Exhibition

It was a lovely exhibition and I was thrilled to be one of 10 finalists. I entered six paintings and the judge liked all of them but was particularly impressed with "Fusion", a watercolour abstract.

This painting was so much fun to do!

I literally applied the watercolour paint onto the paper from the tube. I then sprayed water onto the paint and let it run. I turned the paper around controlling the flow and adding more colour when I thought it was the right time.

I had read about this technique and one day I thought I should give it a go. To my surprise, I loved the finished painting and it sold at, "The Art of Sydney" Exhibition in January.

I came across some discarded books, a pyjama top, an old, but unused paper pocket and an old wedding invitation and voila, a gift tag was born. I am going to do a whole range of these with a Wedding/Love theme for my Etsy store.

Reduction Linocut

A linocut is a form of relief print, similar to woodcut. The principle of relief printmaking is that the uncarved areas of the printing plate remain raised to accept ink. Ink is applied with a roller or brayer, the print paper is placed over the top and the back of the paper is rubbed with a spoon or barren. Prints can also be pulled using a press. "I Fiori" is a reduction linocut created using a press.

Well, 2010 is almost over and I would like to share some evaluations from my art students on the 2010 After School Art Classes.

Year 6
When I started the art classes I knew that I was going to learn some new, cool things. The art classes were a sensation and I really liked them. I thank Mrs Iliadis for giving her time to do these magic classes.

Year 5
During the art classes I have learnt about wax resistance and drawing symmetry and the primary colours on the colour wheel. Art classes were fun because we were able to have free choice painting. I think that I’ll be a good artist because of art classes.

Year 4
Art classes were really fun. I had the best time when we were painting.

Year 4
The best time during art classes was when we drew and painted an apple. I really loved that class and I really loved all the other things. It’s been fun. Mrs Iliadis is a very beautiful and kind teacher.

Year 4
I liked the art classes and in particular when we used acrylic paint to paint our apples.

I loved the art classes. I enjoyed drawing and painting the apple and much more. Thank you, Mrs Iliadis for doing the art lessons every week.

Year 3
I loved art classes and in particular when we did the abstract paintings because it was exciting and a great deal of fun. I liked drawing with the candle and then painting over it with watercolour paints showing the wax drawing. Art classes were fun and wonderful.

I liked the art classes because I have changed the way I do my art. It is now stunning. I can draw better and you should see the drawings in my house. So art classes have changed me and I really thought that they wouldn’t. The classes were also fun.

Art Est Art School

I was very excited when I sold a print at the Art Est Annual Exhibition at Leichhardt. It sold during the opening night, while I was there. I was able to meet the buyers and thank them.

Val's Payment

To my surprise after doing many odd jobs for me, my handyman didn't want money for his services but one of my paintings. Wow! He has been our handyman for almost twenty years and I was very touched that he valued my work.

I showed Val and his "Mrs" (as he refers to her) quite a selection of oils, watercolours and others but they both chose "Tasneem", an oil painting of one of my students from last year.

St Mark's Annual Art Show 2010

During the October long weekend every year, Saint Mark's Anglican Church at South Hurstville holds an art show. I entered two paintings last year and sold none, but this year I had more luck as my painting, "Spring Flowers" sold.

I would like to congratulate all involved in organising such a lovely exhibition and a big thank you to Barbara who bought my painting.

Sales are quite high every year!
